Time it was, and what a time it was,
it was a time of innocence, a time of confidences
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories; They're all that's left you
~ Bookends, Simon & Garfunkel
This one is one of my favorites though. We were camping somewhere. It was evening, and we were lounging in the RV as Doug planned our next adventure. He loved to study maps. His glasses are halfway down his face (he would never take them off to read.) I love his smile; the light in his eyes, his presence. I love ... him ...still.
His absence is surreal. This moment was real. I know it was. I have a photograph.
When I look at these pictures, I am transported back to happier times. He is alive. I feel heartache, but also love...and gratitude.
